For some costumes, an inexpensive leotard works wonders. Pair a soft-pink one with the make-it-yourself skirt below and this pretty ballerina outfit will have every little girl looking for a stage. No sewing required.
1. Buy several yards of inexpensive pink or white tulle and matching two-inch-wide ribbon at your local fabric store.
2. Choose the length you want the tulle skirt to be. Then measure your child's waist and make the width of the skirt two times that amount.
3. Measure your child's waist again, mark off that amount in the center of your ribbon and hand gather the tulle as you hot-glue it into the space you measured off (start in the middle and work toward each end).
4. The trailing pieces of ribbon are used to tie the skirt in the back. Glue on rhinestones, tiny flowers or glittery fabric paint for an extra sparkle.
