I just went off the pill three weeks ago, and suddenly my gums are sore and bleeding. Is this a sign that I'm pregnant?
Delay of ovulation after stopping today's low-dose birth control pills is much less common that it used to be with high-dose pills. It is possible that you are pregnant.
Though swollen and irritated gums can be common during pregnancy, it normally does not start until the second or third month. Bleeding gums is not a typical sign of pregnancy, nor a problem related to discontinuing oral contraceptives.
If you are due or just overdue for a period, I would recommend that you get a pregnancy test. Whether or not you are pregnant, it is important that you have this checked out by your dentist as soon as possible since periodontal (gum) disease has been linked with preterm birth and low birth weight.
