Q

I have an overabundant milk supply. I would like to freeze a few bottles for times when I will be away from the baby, but I'm worried that pumping may further increase my milk supply. What should I do?

A

Increasing the number of feeds, or times that milk is expressed, throughout the day will increase your milk supply.

If you only need to build up a small supply for occasional use, I would recommend limiting pumping to one time a day, or occasional expressing, as needed.

It may work well for you to try expressing your milk in the morning -- about an hour before your baby typically nurses, or about an hour following her morning feed.
