One of the biggest lessons for parents of elementary school-age children is learning how to handle homework. When you’re sitting at the kitchen table, laboring over story problems, you may be thinking to yourself, “Who’s assignment is this anyway?” The challenge is to make sure that your child learns his school work, but it’s equally important that he learns how to do his work on his own -- discipline that will see him through his entire career, educational or otherwise. According to the parents of Parent Soup, the way to ensure homework success is to learn how your child works best, and then give him enough structure and incentive to do his assignments on his own.

Get Their Attention
When I told my daughter (who’s in fourth grade) that I was going to tell her teacher to keep her in at recess to complete homework, her mouth dropped open. Most kids do not want to spend recess sitting in class. I haven't had a problem with her since about completing homework.
