The Twelve Days of Christmas
Illustrated by Emily Bolam
It is a great song for the holidays and lots of fun to sing, but it sure is difficult to remember the sequence of all of those gifts. Well worry no more, this rebus version is perfect for those who can read and those who can not. It all came about because the illustrator was at a holiday party where participants drew lots to identify the verse of the song that they would have to sing. She drew nine and had lots of help to make it through the verses. Later, when she returned home, Bolan sketched images to help her remember. The artwork has primitive, kid-friendly look and there is plenty of humor in the expressions and body language of the animals and people. Loosen up those vocal cords and get ready, the music and verses are also printed on the final spread of the book. 1997, Atheneum.
