Birds can be just like people: Foods that are prized by some, are shunned by others. To help attract a wider variety of birds to your yard, directions for making two different types of birdfeeders are included. With any luck you'll have plenty of beautiful birds to watch in your backyard.


Pinecone Bird Feeder -- What You'll Need:

  • Bird seed

  • Bowl, large

  • Knife, plastic

  • Lunch bags, paper

  • Peanut butter

  • Pinecones,large (purchase at a hobby shop if you can't find any in your area)

  • Saucepan, small

  • String

What You'll Do:
  • Securely tie string around top of pinecone.

  • Melt contents of peanut butter jar in saucepan.

  • Pour birdseed in bowl.

  • Roll pinecones in peanut butter.

  • Roll pinecones in birdseed.

  • Store in paper bags until ready to hang in tree as a treat for the birds.

Citrus Bird Feeder -- What You'll Need:

  • Bird seed

  • Grapefruit or large orange

  • Ice pick (adults need to assist)

  • Knife (adults need to assist)

  • Lunch bags, paper

  • Pencil or dowel

  • Pinecones, large

  • Seeds, berries and tiny pieces of fruit

  • String
